Biblical ADOPTION

 

Romans 8:22-23

 

·         Common understanding of adoption—to legally take one who is not by nature of the family and receive and treat him as a born child

·         Biblical adoption refers to our being placed in the position of an adult son, the redemption of our body, our deliverance from the very presence of sin into His presence, our receiving our inheritance

 

I.                   We are born again into the family of God and not adopted in the common sense of the word

a.     He gives us the power or privilege, authority to become the sons of God     John 1:12-13

b.     Ye must be born again John 3:5-7

c.      Of His own will he begat us James 1:18

d.     We are begotten I Peter 1:3

e.     Born of incorruptible see I Peter 1:23

f.       We are born of God I John 5:1

 

II.                 The Biblical term adoption

a.     At salvation we get the Spirit of adoption Romans 8:15

                                                              i.      Not a spirit of fear or bondage

                                                             ii.      The Spirit bears witness that we are indeed the children of God

                                                           iii.      The tender relationship we feel with our Abba, Father

b.     Adoption is not how we get into the family of God rather it is a putting us into our position as sons of God

c.      Adoption is the redemption of the body Romans 8:23

d.     Our adoption is still future Romans 8:23,   I John 3:2

e.     We wait eagerly for the manifestation of the sons of God Romans 8:19, 21-22, Psalm 17:15, Matthew 7:23

f.       We will be placed in the position of an adult son Galatians 4:1-5

 

III.              What is at our adoption Romans 8:23

a.     The saints of God will be resurrected and changed into His likeness                          I Thessalonians 4:16-17

b.     We will ever be with the Lord                         I Thessalonians 4:17

c.      We leave mortality and take on immortality I Corinthians 15:50-53

d.     We get our new body Philippians 3:21

e.     We will be like Jesus Romans 8:29

 

IV.              At our adoption we are given our inheritance—Prince William turned 25

a.     It is reserved for us in Heaven                      I Peter 1:3-5

b.     Faithful over few things ruler over many things Matthew 25:21

c.      We will be made kings and priests and reign on the earth Revelation 5:10

d.     Our faithfulness with the little that He gives us now will determine our privileges and responsibilities in the Kingdom reign Luke 16:10-12

 

 

 

Joh 1:12  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Joh 1:13  Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

 

Joh 3:5  Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Joh 3:6  That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Joh 3:7  Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

 

Jas 1:18  Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

 

1Pe 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

 

1Pe 1:23  Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

 

1Jn 5:1  Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

 

Rom 8:15  For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

 

Rom 8:23  And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

 

1Jn 3:2  Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

 

Rom 8:19  For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

Rom 8:21  Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

Rom 8:22  For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

 

Psa 17:15  As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

 

Mat 7:23  And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Gal 4:1  Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;

Gal 4:2  But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.

Gal 4:3  Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:

Gal 4:4  But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

Gal 4:5  To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

 

Rom 8:23  And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

1Th 4:16  For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

1Th 4:17  Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

 

1Co 15:50  Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

1Co 15:51  Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

1Co 15:52  In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

1Co 15:53  For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

 

 

 

 

Php 3:21  Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

 

Rom 8:29  For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

 

1Pe 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

1Pe 1:4  To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

1Pe 1:5  Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

 

Mat 25:21  His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

 

Rev 5:10  And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

 

Luk 16:10  He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.

Luk 16:11  If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

Luk 16:12  And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's, who shall give you that which is your own?
