Bold to Speak

Philippians 1:12-20

I.                     Paul’s desire was that the gospel be preached

a.      Paul rejoices that they preach the gospel Philippians 1:18

b.      His bonds gave them boldness Philippians 1:13-14

c.      Some preached the gospel for the wrong reasons but Paul was just happy to see Christ preached Philippians 1:15

d.      Some preached the gospel to hurt Paul Philippians 1:16

e.      Some preached the gospel from love Philippians 1:17

f.        Are we set for the defense of the gospel Philippians 1:17

II.                   There were many reasons one might be afraid to preach Christ

a.      They were threatened Acts 4:17-18, 21, 29

b.      They were insulted and had suffered I Thessalonians 2:2

c.      They were accused of troubling the city Acts 16:20-24

d.      Many Christians had suffered Hebrews 11:35-39

III.                  The Secret to Boldness

a.      Immediate boldness after salvation Acts 9:27

b.      A close personal relationship with Jesus Christ – not education Acts 4:13

c.      Fullness of the Holy Spirit Acts 4:31

d.      As a result of prayer Ephesians 6:19-20

IV.               The cost didn’t matter as long as Christ was magnified

a.      Whatever happens to him is for the furtherance of the gospel and he rejoices over it Philippians 1:12

b.      Paul was willing to spend and be spent regardless of how he was treated II Corinthians 12:15

c.      He gave himself with the gospel I Thessalonians 2:8

d.      Life or death didn’t matter Philippians 1:20
