Eternal Redemption

 

Hebrews 9:12

 

·        To repurchase captured goods or prisoners

·        The deliverance of persons or things from the possession and power of captors by payment of a ransom—like the redemption of prisoners taken in war

·        Deliverance from bondage, distress or from liability to any evil or forfeiture

·        The ransom or deliverance of sinners from the bondage of sin and the penalties of God’s violated law by the blood of Christ Jesus

·        Our debt is not cancelled it is paid

·        His death satisfied divine justice

 

 

I.                  We were captured prisoners being held for a debt we owed

a.    Sin entered the world and death passed to all men Romans 5:12, 19

b.    Men are sinners by nature and by choice Genesis 5:3, Job 15:14, 25:4,          Psalm 51:5

c.     All men are sinners Galatians 3:22

d.    Under the curse of the law         Galatians 3:13

 

II.              Jesus Christ paid our debt

a.    The blood of Jesus Christ not material goods I Peter 1:18-19

b.    He gave Himself for all I Timothy 2:5-6

c.     Wages of sin and the gift of God    Romans 6:23

 

III.           God accepted His payment

a.    It pleased God to bruise Him          Isaiah 53:10

b.    His words on the cross It is Finished   John 19:30

c.     He arose with the keys of death and Hell Revelation 1:18

 

IV.            Redemption means the following for us

a.    Free justification Romans 3:24

b.    The forgiveness or our sins        Ephesians 1:7

c.     Purity and a new life Titus 2:14

 

V.                We are not our own we have been bought with a price

a.    We are to glorify God                            I Corinthians 6:19-20

b.    We are not to serve men                       I Corinthians 7:23

c.     His love constrains or strongly motivates us II Corinthians 5:14-15
