How to go where you have never gone before!

 

Joshua 3, 3:4

 

I.                     Know that it is God who carries you there

a.      Know that the living God is among you 3:10

b.      Know that He will show you the way 3:4

c.      Know that He goes over before you 3:11

d.      Notice that He calls Himself the Lord of all the earth 3:11

 

II.                   Focus on Him and His will and not the obstacles 3:1-3

a.      He is going to take them into the promise land

b.      They come and lodge by the Jordan river 3:1

c.      The river is overflowing its banks 3:15

d.      They are to look to the ark 3:3

e.      They lodged by the river for 3 days—interesting, Jonah was in the belly of the whale for 3 days, Jesus was dead and buried for 3 days, Abraham journeys to sacrifice his son for 3 days, the spies hid out for 3 days—long enough to know you have reached your limit—you can’t

 

III.                  Learn to follow directions

a.      Move when you see the ark move 3:3

b.      Reverence the ark—keep your distance 3:4

c.      Keep your eyes on the ark out in front of you 3:4

d.      Sanctify yourself or prepare yourself to worship 3:5

                                                              i.      Wash your clothes Exodus 19:10-11

                                                            ii.      Put away false gods Genesis 35:2

                                                          iii.      Don’t take lightly getting to meet with God Hebrews 10:22

                                                           iv.      It is separation from sin to God

e.      You need not magnify yourself or try to prove that God is with you—He will magnify you 3:7—promotion comes from Him

f.        Go to the water and stand in it 3:8

 

IV.               The journey starts with a step of faith

a.      You have heard the promises of chapter 1

b.      You have seen the tokens of chapter 2

c.      The promise will not come true until you put your feet in the water 3:13

d.      The ark goes before you 3:11

e.      The ark stands with you in the middle of the testing 3:17

f.        The ark doesn’t come out of the river until all are passed over 3:17
