God’s Prescription for Marriage

Genesis 2:15-25

I.                     A responsible man 2:15-17

a.      Responsible to know the will of God for their lives 2:16

b.      Responsible to share and teach the will of God to his family

c.      Responsible to lead the family to do God’s will for their lives

II.                   An ideal relationship

a.      Each special made for the other

b.      Serving God together—a real team 2:18, 24

c.      Complete and special intimacy 2:25

III.                  Understanding their roles in marriage

a.      He is responsible for the family before God 3:9

b.      She was his help meet or co laborer 2:18, 20

                                                              i.      She shares his dreams for the work of God

                                                            ii.      She gives of herself to help him accomplish what God wants from him, her and the family

c.      Definite knowledge that God only made one for the other, no replacement parts

d.      His partner, taken from his side not from his head and nor his foot

IV.               Rules for a marriage like this one

a.      Know and obey the will of God for their lives

b.      Understand what it means to be one flesh and then act the part, become literally one flesh

c.      Separate yourself from your family

d.      Take your place as the spiritual leader

e.      Become the spiritual challenge that he so desperately needs
