Hosea
Hos_6:6
The nation of Israel was trying to cover their lack of desire for a sincere relationship with God by sacrificing and offering up burnt-offerings. Just as Samuel told Saul, “…to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams” (1Sa_15:22), sometimes we try to cover up sin, selfishness, failure to die to self, lack of obedience by making and open show of our giving money, time, or effort to the work of God. There is nothing wrong with giving to missions, but if God has commanded you to go, then no amount of money could ever appease God. There is nothing wrong with working in your home church or starting a church in your home country, but if God has commanded you to go to a foreign country, then you will never be happy and right with the Lord until you obey. Hos_7:15
Thought God has blessed us with all that we have – a healthy body, a good mind, talents and abilities, education, money, whatever you have – yet so often we still rebel against Him. So many young people abuse and waste the life God has given them to serve Him with. So many parents hold back the children that God has given to them to give back to Him. God has given us all that we have. He died for us. Can we not live for Him? TRS
Hos_8:7
“…they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind…” So much of what we give our lives to will produce no eternal fruit. If we invest in that which does not last for eternity, all that we will reap will be destruction. Our reaping will be like a plant without a stalk or meal. Will sports, soap operas, retirement plans, cars, houses, and the stock market be the places you invest your time, money, and energy? If so, you will reap only destruction of your investments. How much better to invest in souls, churches, Bible colleges, missionaries, and the work of God! This will produce incorruptible treasure. TRS |
